How often should you get a massage?

Massage therapy involves much more than just providing relaxation. It involves creating a safe space for individuals experiencing significant stress. Many clients may be coping with the loss of a loved one, battling health issues, or facing debilitating anxiety stemming from their surroundings. We all encounter fears, doubts, and worries that can diminish our self-confidence and make daily life a challenge.

My favorite clients are those who choose to step onto the bus and prioritize their well-being. I cherish the opportunity to witness their transformations. This is the most rewarding aspect of my work, observing and feeling the positive changes in my clients.

Some days can be tough, especially as clients begin to feel like friends. They entrust not only their physical bodies but also their emotions to me. Trust is fundamental in the client-therapist relationship. I believe that for a successful partnership, there needs to be mutual collaboration, shared energy, and trust between us. This is what makes a great massage therapist!

While I maintain professional boundaries, I also welcome questions about myself. Sharing information helps foster trust and strengthens our bond.

With that in mind, I started a blog on my website when I first opened. It was part of the brand I wanted The Spa Lot to share. That we are all connected in our struggles and life experiences. Massage is great for all that!!! But there are other things we can be doing to relieve that stress, when we aren’t able to get a massage. This blog aims to explore such topics.

I am frequently asked how often should I get a massage? The truth is, there isn't a definitive answer. You might choose to schedule sessions monthly, biweekly, or every other month, and yes, I do have clients who I see weekly. The frequency of massage sessions can vary significantly. I frequently share with my clients that during my training, we received massages daily. Our days consisted of lectures in the morning and hands-on practice in the afternoon for three to four months straight. Then the final three months, we transitioned to a clinic setting, which naturally reduced the frequency of our massages.

When I graduated and due to trying to get this business off the ground, I was not getting massages regularly. There would be a two to three month gap. Once I hit a certain point in my business and schedule, I started getting them on a monthly basis. My ultimate goal one day is to be at a weekly or bi-weekly routine. I have gone through all frequencies and can see a huge difference how it plays on my mental health, physical health, and in general the grace I give myself. We live such a rushed society, which I believe is the biggest contributor to our stress in life and some of our health issues. One of the biggest reasons I got back into massage therapy – to slow down in life.

Ultimately, the best and most affordable option is what works for you. When I can't receive a regular massage as often as I'd like, I turn to other activities that help manage stress, anxiety, and promote overall wellness for my body, mind, and spirit. Writing is one of those activities. It’s truly a passion of mine, and creating this blog allows me to contribute to The Spa Lot while also indulging in something I love. To stay inspired and ensure I dedicate time for myself, I've decided to host a "Therapist Thursday" once a month. These blog posts will help you get to know me, your massage therapist, a bit better. My primary goal is to ensure that you feel comfortable and trust me during our sessions, as that is the key to an exceptional massage!
